The film takes place in a high school where the new student, Violet Jacobs, finds herself dealing with a social problem.Not only is there a popular crowd,but even the teachers show favoritism for the rich kids in school. When things go bad with her acerbic wit and acute sense of social justice she recruits the help of a new friend, and editor of the school paper, Cornelia Nixon.At first no one was reading their paper bacause no one was actually interested in boring news. So Vi(Violet) and Cornelia created a tabloid called THE TATTLER. It had embarassing stories about the popular and grumpy kids in the school. But things took a turn for the worse when Cornelia got addicted and hypnotized about the popularity she and Violet got.So Cornelia started writing a false story about Violet's crush.
The story ends when the tabloid reaches its climax but not in a good way.Not knowing what to public Cornelia decides to invent stories about the kids in school. The tabloid is finally crushed by Violet blackmailing Cornelia with evidence of a plastic surgery she had long ago.Being teased by Vi,Cornelia is bounded to apologise to all the people who got hurt.
